USA TAKES PROTECTIONIST MEASURES AGAINST STEEL AND ALUMINIUM IMPORTS FROM MEXICO, CANADA AND THE EUROPEAN UNION
From 1st June new customs duties are imposed for steel and aluminium imports coming from Mexico, Canada and the European Union according to the announcement made by the United States Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Louis Ross Jr on 31st May. The tariff for steel is 25 % and the one for aluminium 10 %.
The answer from the involved parties was immediately released. Mexico has announced the application of similar customs duties for some products coming from the United States like pork legs, apples or blueberries. Tariffs approximately between 20 % and 25 %.
The European Union has informed it will report about this decision to the World Trade Organization and it will impose new tariff measures against some products with American origin. Bourbon and jeans will be ones of the affected by these new measures. Regarding Canada, it will take similar actions to the ones taken by the European Union and Mexico.
